As Promised, Gorillaz Are Coming to India in 2027

In an exclusive interview earlier this year, Gorillaz hinted that an India tour was firmly on the horizon. Now, they are making good on that promise.

When asked in January about the possibility of touring India ahead of the release of their India-inspired album The Mountain, frontman Damon Albarn responded without hesitation: “If we don’t play in India, what’s the point of this album?” That statement sparked excitement among fans—and now, just three months later, it has become reality.

Damon Albarn, alongside Gorillaz co-creator Jamie Hewlett, is set to bring the virtual band to India for the very first time in 2027. The tour will include performances in Bengaluru on January 23 at District Arena, and in Mumbai on January 27 at Jio World Garden. Given the duo’s deep admiration for India, more dates may be added in the future.

Hewlett has spoken passionately about the country’s visual and cultural richness, describing it as an endless source of inspiration. He noted that capturing India’s essence through art alone would be nearly impossible, which is why the team chose to document their experiences through photography during their travels. From the vibrant streets of Jaipur to the historic depth of Delhi, India has left a lasting impression on the band—and Hewlett himself admits he’s not done exploring it.

For these landmark shows, Gorillaz will be joined by their full live band as well as special guest performers, including several of their Indian collaborators. These include legendary singer Asha Bhosle, sitarist Anoushka Shankar, flautist Ajay Prasanna, vocalist Asha Puthli, and classical musicians Amaan Ali Bangash and Ayaan Ali Bangash.

Fans can expect a setlist packed with iconic hits such as ‘Feel Good Inc.’, ‘Clint Eastwood’, ‘On Melancholy Hill’ and ‘Tranz’. However, the performances will heavily feature material from The Mountain, which has already made a major impact—debuting at number one on the UK Albums Chart and number seven on the US Billboard 200, marking the band’s third UK number-one album. Tracks like ‘The Happy Dictator’, ‘Orange County’ and ‘The Moon Cave’ have quickly become fan favourites.

Ticket sales will begin with an exclusive pre-sale for Mastercard holders via the District app from April 13 to April 18, 2026. General ticket sales will follow shortly after, launching on April 18, 2026.

With anticipation building and the band’s long-standing connection to India finally coming full circle, Gorillaz’s 2027 tour promises to be a landmark moment for fans in the country.
